When the operator answers you give the address where you want to be picked up (where a taxi can arrive, not necessarily in front of your apartment). They will ask you how many people. The operator will speak in Italian, and rarely speaks any English, so you must be able to say in Italian the address and how many people.
After a pause to locate a taxi, you will hear an automated voice say:
Il tuo taxi e' ALFA 9, arrivera' in 5 min.
(Your taxi is Alfa 9 (or Beta 36 or Gamma 67) and will arrive in 5 minutes.)
Just hang up and the taxi will arrive in 5 minutes. Be there.

Send the pickup address (where a taxi can arrive!), no punctuation, such as ‘Via Magenta 26’ (just the building number, no apartment number; be sure you have the address ready ahead of time, and don’t write ‘Piazza Matteotti Rooster’).
You will immediately receive:

After a few minutes you will receive:
ALFA 9 è il Tuo Taxi e ti raggiungerà in 03 min. -SOLO E SOLAMENTE PER TEMPI SUPERIORI AI 7 MINUTI RISPONDERE 'CONFERMO' O 'ANNULLO'
(Your taxi is Alfa 9 (or Beta 36 or Gamma 67) and will arrive in 3 minutes, Only if the wait exceeds 7 minutes should you respond with ‘confirm’ or ‘cancel’)
AIRPORT
Theoretically, the price is fixed at 25 euros from airport to city center or vice versa for up to four people.
UBER
There is no UBER in Genoa.
